A last French victory? Profile of the 20th step and classification

10:59 – The favorites of the race

This penultimate stage of the Tour de France 2025, 184.2 km long between Nantua and Pontarlier, should promote attackers. With a hilly profile and almost 2,900 meters of elevation, this course in the Jura promises to be ideal for backpackers. Several offensive runners will try to escape, including Ben Healy (EF Education-Easypost), Jonas Abrahamsen (UNO-X), Victor Campenaerts (Visma-Lease A Bike) or Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek), in the running for the title of Supercombatif. On the French side, the victory of Valentin Paret-Peintre au Ventoux gave momentum to the tricolor ambitions. Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor), very active this year, could once again try his luck. Axel Laurance (ineos grenadiers), if it crosses the Col de la Croix de la Serra (12.1 km at 4.1 %) at the start of the stage, has the means to target a new top 10. Unless the general’s favorites, starting with Tadej Pogacar, decide to do battle on the eve of the finish.

10:52 – The profile of the step

The 20th stage of the Tour de France 2025 offers a 184.2 km route in the heart of Jura reliefs, between Nantua and Pontarlier. After the big alpine passes, the peloton will have to face a hilly and demanding course, perfect for the backpackers looking for a last shine before arrival in Paris.

From the first kilometers, the tone will be set with the ascent of the Col de la Croix de la Serra (12.1 km at 4.1 %), which should encourage rapid and nervous departure. As the last third approach, the formidable coast of Théy (3.6 km at 8.9 %) could trigger decisive attacks and shape the breakaway of the day. The end of the stage, punctuated by a series of short but common climbs, will promote the most enduring and enterprising runners.

This rugged profile will test the tired legs and offer a last opportunity to shine far from the projectors of the final sprint. The arrival will be played on the Georges Pompidou ring road, after a straight line of 150 meters, 6.50 meters wide, a clear conclusion at a stage as undecided as dynamic.
