Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang called on Saturday to reconcile the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and the risks induced by this technology. He called for a global consensus despite the Beijing-Washington rivalry in the matter.
Donald Trump unveiled this week an action plan to promote the unhindered development of American models of AI in the United States and abroad, dismissing reserves on its possible drifts.

The tenant of the White House thus breaks with the line of his predecessor Joe Biden, in favor of a controlled boom. “We will not let any other nation fight” in the AI race, said the septuagenarian.
Organization launched by Beijing
But on Saturday, during the opening of the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence (WAIC) in Shanghai, Li Qiang called for good governance and the sharing of resources, notably announcing the creation of an organization, launched by China, intended to stimulate international cooperation in terms of AI.
“The risks and challenges linked to artificial intelligence arouse generalized attention (…) Finding a balance between development and security requires a wider consensus on the part of the whole of society,” he said.
No technological monopolies
China “actively encourages” the development of open source AI and is willing to share its technological advances with other countries, especially those in development, he said.
Open source programs allow access to their IT code and authorize researchers to reuse them. The latter thus have the possibility of continuing to develop it as you go.
“If we establish technological monopolies, controls or barriers, artificial intelligence is likely to become the kept hunt for a small number of countries and businesses,” warned Li Qiang. The latter also cited “the shortage of flea and calculation capacities” among a list of obstacles to the development of the sector.
