The emblematic Commodore 64, immediately recognizable by its design in the shape of a breadbox, returns with a touch of modernity.

Christian Simpson, personality of YouTube, known online under the name of Perifracticfirst tried to acquire the exclusive rights of the Commodore brand. He finally bought Commodore in its entirety, including the remaining 47 marks. This allowed him to revive the brand as part of a project led by fans. Simpson has kept his word and unveiled a new Commodore model.

Technical specifications and characteristics

The Commodore 64 Ultimate has a classic design and advanced technology. Unlike emulators that simulate older equipment, this machine uses a modern AMD FPGA chip (Xilinx Artix-7) to guarantee precise execution of software. It is equipped with 128 MEGAOCTES of DDR2 RAME memory and 16 MEGAOCTES of Flash NOR memory.

Compatibility with inherited devices is a priority, aimed at ensuring compatibility with 99 percent of existing games and accessories. In particular, it supports the Datasette interface, which allows you to use the original cassetters. For those who do not have physical supports, the new C64 can simulate cassettes and drunk players using a USB key.

Additional features

The emulation extends to modules, SID chips, memory extensions and network functionalities. The HDMI port allows you to connect modern screens while simulating PAL/NTSC synchronization (1080p @ 50 hertz or 60 hertz). Optional scanning line effects improve retro aesthetics. The other ports include three USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-C port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a S/PDIF optical port, a microSD card location and an Ethernet 100 Mbps port. The Commodore 64 Ultimate also supports wireless networks (WiFi specifications are not mentioned).

If the keyboard arrangement remains unchanged, the striking experience has been modernized thanks to the Gateron Pro 3.0 switches with RGB LED (operating power of 55 g).
