If you have visited Tiktok or Instagram recently, there is a chance that the “Cortisol cocktail”, one of the new well-being modes, appeared in your wire.
The drink, this “cortisol cocktail”, is generally composed of coconut water, citrus juice (such as orange) and mineral salts (often sea salt or magnesium). It is possible to add sparkling water or other supplements.
The followers say that the “cocktail”, which does not contain alcohol, helps reduce cortisol levels, a stress -related hormone, and improves vitality.
According to them, it would be a natural response to daily stress. According to a Gallup survey published in 2024, almost one in two American people say they feel often stressed.
What is cortisol?
Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, located above the kidneys. It plays a key role in the management of metabolism, sleep, blood pressure and immune responses. It is sometimes called “stress hormone” because its rate naturally increases when the body perceives a threat.

When a stressful situation occurs, the reaction is part of the “combat or leak” response, which helps us to remain vigilant and to react quickly if necessary.
An increase in cortisol is useful in the short term. But a very high cortisol level over a long period, of which in the event of chronic stress, can harm health: sleep disorders, anxiety, hypertension, even weakening of the immune system.
Unproven efficiency
According to Doctor Leana Wen, an emergency doctor and health specialist, there is no scientific evidence that this “cocktail” really reduces cortisol or stress.
The nutrients it contains (potassium, vitamin C or magnesium) are good for health, but most people are already consuming enough via a balanced diet, Leana Wen said in an interview with CNN.
There is also no recognized medical diagnosis of what some call “adrenal fatigue” on social networks, a popular theory, but without scientific foundation. Symptoms, such as anxiety or lack of energy, can actually have other causes related to other health problems.
Be careful
Even if this drink seems harmless, it is not suitable for everyone. People with kidney, heart or diabetes diseases should be particularly cautious because of the potassium, sugar or liquid content.
Better to ask a healthcare professional for advice before consuming it.
Placebo effect or real benefit?
If some say they feel better on social networks after drinking this “Cortisol cocktail”, this can be explained by a placebo effect or better hydration.
Simply taking care of yourself can already provide a feeling of well-being.
Dr. Wen specifies to CNN that even if this drink does not seem dangerous for the majority of people, nothing replaces medical follow -up with a professional.
