St. John’s, August 9, 2025
The Canada 2025 Games in St. John’s are officially open. This prestigious meeting will bring together more than 5,000 young athletes, coaches and officials, who represent the 13 provinces and territories as part of the largest multisport competition in Canada.
Until August 24, we will witness the strength, determination and talent of the best young athletes in Canada. These will compete in 17 sports, under the flag of their province or territory.
Since the very first Games in Canada, which took place in Quebec in 1967, this sporting event promotes the development of athletes, enriches local communities and consolidates the network of sports and recreational infrastructure from one ocean to another, in addition to raising accessibility. Canada 2025 Games reflect our conviction that sport can unite and build stronger, more inclusive and healthy communities across the country.
As the main funder of the Canadian sports system, the Government of Canada is proud to support this year’s games. They will highlight the cultural diversity and the succession of the country as well as national pride.
I congratulate all the people who, over the next two weeks, will ensure the success of the games, including the hostess company, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the city of St. John’s and the surrounding municipalities, the Canada Games Council as well as the volunteers who will significantly contribute to the spirit of this competition.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish good luck to all the people who participate!
May the games start!
