Discrimination: four Lausanne police officers suspended

Racist, sexist, anti -Semitic or discriminatory messages have circulated between Lausanne police officers on WhatsApp groups. The municipality, deeply shocked, takes action with a first series of suspensions.

(Keystone-ATS) These two private Whatsapp groups included 6 and 48 members. Everything has not yet been analyzed, but the city of Lausanne has already suspended four people. Others will follow in the coming days, said Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand, municipal in charge of the police on Monday.

In addition to these suspensions, which could then lead to layoffs, criminal investigations are underway.

The municipality also wants to lead an “in -depth reform”. For the trustee Grégoire Junod, “there is a problem of systemic discrimination” to be resolved. André Duvillard, a former Neuchâtel police commander, was hired to support the Lausanne authorities.

This case “seriously begins the image of the Lausanne police. It is a stain on the uniform that must be cleaned, ”according to Mr. Hildbrand.
