Employment increase in Switzerland in the second quarter

Total employment in Switzerland increased by 0.6% over a year in the second quarter after correction of seasonal variations, announces the Federal Statistics Office (OFS) on Monday. (Keystone-ATS) At the end of June, companies had a total of 5.5 million jobs, excluding agriculture, or 35,400 positions more than a year earlier. Some 2.3 million people worked part -time, including 69.4% women. The volume of employment, calculated in full -time jobs, has reached 4.3 million positions (40.6% occupied by women), therefore increasing 21,000 full -time equivalents (+0.5%) in the space of a year.

Companies have announced a total of 93,200 vacant places, 10,400 less than in the same quarter in 2024. This decline affected both the secondary sector (-14.2%) and the tertiary sector (-8.8%). Vacancies represented 1.7% of all posts.

The recruitment difficulties of qualified personnel, weighted according to the number of jobs, also fell, from 2.2 percentage points to 37.1%.

The forecasts for evolution of employment have darkened, the companies continuing to bet on caution.
