A strong accidental explosion in an explosive materials factory in southern Brazil made nine missing on Tuesday, the authorities announced.
(Keystone-ATS) Six men and three women are missing in this accident which occurred around 6 am local time, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, capital of the State of Paraná, according to the spokesperson for firefighters, Luisana Guimaraes.
The security forces, helped by dogs, participate in research to find the victims. Several people were also injured and were taken care of in neighboring hospitals.
“The explosion area was destroyed. Within a radius of about 1.5 km, houses were affected, with broken windows, damaged structures, a huge shock wave, “said the spokesperson.
The images broadcast by the firefighters of the paraná after having controlled the fire showed a huge land strewn with debris.
The causes of the accident are the subject of an investigation, said the managers of the company Enaex Brasil, owner of the factory, at a press conference.
The company implements an emergency plan to provide psychological support to the victims and their families, they added.
According to the authorities, the inhabitants of several neighboring localities heard the detonation.
