Farmers vandalize the premises of Ecologists in Toulouse

A hundred farmers in Occitania have spread manure, waste, wool and threw eggs on Tuesday, July 22, in the evening, on the locals of Ecologists in Toulouse to support the Duplomb law, noted a journalist from the France-Presse Agency (AFP).

Coming from Tarn, Gers, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, Ariège or Hérault, at the call of rural coordination (CR), they intended to denounce the petition which collected more than 1.7 million signatures and requests the abrogation of this law adopted on July 8. A text which must in particular reintroduce in a derogatory manner a pesticide, acetamipride, prohibited in France but authorized in Europe.

“Nothing to fart Sandrine”could we read on a banner deployed by farmers, in reaction to the words of the environmental member Sandrine Rousseau who had declared on the news site the media : “I don’t have to fart” the profitability of farmers.

The left, wind up against the law during its examination, tries to take advantage of unprecedented citizen mobilization. “It is a struggle that is just beginning”also warned Sandrine Rousseau.

In front of the siege of the environmental party in Toulouse, “We come to denounce the manipulation that there is with this petition against the Duplumb law. (…) If we stop this product (…) All our sugar and our hazelnuts will be imported from abroad ”reacted Tuesday evening to AFP Pierre-Guillaume Mercadal, spokesperson for the Rural Coordination of Tarn-et-Garonne.

Unfair competition

Acetamipride, toxic to biodiversity and potentially for human health, is claimed by beet or hazelnut producers, who believe they have no alternative against pests and undergo unfair competition from foreign producers. However, the National Health Safety Agency has already made two opinions proving in the past that alternatives to acetamipride exist well.

“The Duplo law is not the best in the world but it was the one who listened to what we had almost said”told AFP Dominique Raud, vice-president of the rural coordination of Haute-Garonne and goat breeder in cheese processing.

“Popular opinion are people who are in town, we are in the countryside”she added in reference to the unprecedented petition requiring the repeal of the Duplomb law. “We are the first green (…) We see it with climate change, we undergo it ”she said.
