A fine by SMS? Beware of scams!

Police warn in the face of the resurgence of scams based on pseudo fines sent by SMS.

The police note that a wave of sending fraudulent sms is underway, especially in the canton of Vaud. However, These messages encourage recipients to click on a link to allegedly set a parking fine.

The SMS in question redirect to fraudulent sites such as “parking lots-vd.com” and “parking lots-ge.com”, which usurp the visual identity of the Vaudois gendarmerie or the Foundation of Geneva car parks. Nevertheless, These platforms ask the victims to enter their personal. Similarly, banking data in order to adjust a false parking fine of 40 francs. The information entered is then used by the crooks to make online purchases.

In a second step, the authors of the scam contact their victims by phone, pretending to be their bank. Thanks to a “spoofing” technique, fine sms? beware scams! they are displayed the real number of the banking establishment on the phone screen. Under the pretext of a suspicious activity. they encourage the victim to provide his e-banking identifiers or to scan QR codes, which then allows them to empty his bank accounts.
