The Palestinian authority said that Israeli settlers had led a new “terrorist attack” to the Christian village of Taybeh, in the center of the occupied West Bank during the night. Vehicles have been burnt down and tagged racist threats.

“Israeli settlers launched a terrorist attack that night against the Palestinian Christian village of Taybeh, burning Palestinian vehicles and tagging racist threats in Hebrew on houses and goods,” the government of Palestinian authority on X. wrote on Monday.

A resident who did not wish to give his name confirmed to AFP that an attack had taken place around 2:00 am and that at least two cars had been burned.

Photos on social networks show a tagged wall with the inscription: “Al-Mughayyer, you will regret it”, named after a neighboring village, having also undergone attacks in the past.

“Nothing other than criminals”

“Whether they are attacking a Christian village or Palestinian Muslim communities in shepherds, these extremist colonists can claim that God has given them this land. But they are nothing other than criminals, rejected by all confessions,” reacted the German ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert.

Taybeh is a Palestinian village of approximately 1,300 inhabitants, exclusively Christians, many of them have dual nationality, including Palestin-American. The village is known to be a place of pilgrimage, as well as for its brewery, the oldest of the Palestinian territories.

Previous settlers’ attacks

The United Nations document regular violence committed by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

In recent months, Taybeh has been targeted by numerous attacks, including starting criminals, especially on an old Byzantine church.

In neighboring villages, in June and July, three people were killed and wells were destroyed by settlers, according to the Palestinian authorities.

The American ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, went to Taybeh on July 19 and denounced the violence.

Israel wants to annex the West Bank

On July 23, more than 70 Israeli deputies voted for the government to annex the occupied West Bank. This text does not have the value of law but wants to affirm “the natural, historical and legal law” of Israel on this Palestinian territory.

Almost half a million Israelis are installed in colonies, all illegal with regard to international law, in this Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
