Hospitals: faster recognition of foreign diplomas required

Foreign doctors who wish to work in a Swiss hospital must wait several months before their diplomas are recognized. This situation is explained by the increase in the number of requests and by absences within the competent service.

(Keystone-ATS) This situation is untenable, wrote the association of H+ hospitals on Thursday in a press release. If hospitals cannot replace specialists who are retired, this compromises the safety of care.

An increase in the number of requests and absences of staff have led to the delay, said the Federal Office for Public Health in Keystone-ATS. Due to economy measures, it was not possible to hire staff.

Insofar as financial possibilities, personnel resources will be increased, simplified processes and digitization continued: “By the end of the year, the delay should be caught and the processing times brought back to less than three months.”
