Users who used to streamer For fun, with their friends or family, will therefore no longer be able to do it; But this measure could above all bring a blow to accounts managed by small creators of content. They will be among the first to be impacted by this change.

Instagram tightens the screw of its live broadcasting…

The Meta platform aligns in the matter with Tiktok, its main competitor, who also limits the broadcast live to accounts with at least 1000 subscribers.

« We have changed the conditions required to use this functionality. Only public accounts with at least 1,000 subscribers will be able to create live videos “Says Instagram

With this decision, Instagram, however, takes a double risk: that of forcing certain users to turn to another less restrictive service (YouTube, for example, always allows live broadcasts for the accounts of at least 50 subscribers); But also that of displeasing a potentially substantial part of his community.

By limiting this old functionality … to which many users have used, Instagram is already exposed to fairly sustained criticisms, especially on X, where live broadcasts are also possible.

The misunderstanding is all the more marked since the platform does not really justify this decision for the moment, explaining only to having the objective of improving the overall experience of live consumption.

However, it is a safe bet that this change of policy has to see both with the costs generated by this functionality: live broadcasts cost the platforms, a fortiori when they are only intended for a small audience.
