IT: Meeting with David Jeanmonod, computer scientist

What was your first contact with IT?

It was during an internship, at the end of the compulsory school, that I discovered this area. Meanwhile, I had been able to code a game, and I found hypervaluing to create a whole program starting from zero. Meanwhile, It was the click.

What training did you follow?

I did an apprenticeship at the Sainte-Croix (EMSC) trades school. What was your professional career?

After my studies, I worked a few years as assistant at the Yverdon engineering school. I then traveled and, on my return, I found a job in an IT services company. You then joined a digital agency.

Finding mandates was not always easy. After five years. we closed the doors of our company and I joined Liip; A self -managed company, without hierarchy, whose vision echoed my aspirations. How do you think this profession is essential for society?

IT deeply transforms human societies. It is exciting to be part of this change and try to accompany it in the right direction. There are many fears around digital, while practically everyone uses it daily. The profession of computer scientist still suffers from certain stereotypes. Wrongly?

This job is very varied and the shot of the geek with glasses, alone at home, is completely false (laughs). You have to be sociable and like to work in a team. Young people who like logic games. solving problems and who are not afraid of human contact, will certainly find their happiness there. I also find that women are still too few in these trades in Switzerland, and that teams need more diversity. Fortunately, mentalities change, and I am hopeful that we are progressing towards greater equality.
