  • The new platforms will be gradually put into service between 2030 and 2036.

THE Lausanne Gare Transformation Work will take a new step with the installation of a gateway to rue du Simplon between Friday and next Monday, according to a press release from CFF. This infrastructure will maintain pedestrian access during the demolition of the old car park scheduled for the end of the year, a prerequisite for construction of the new quay 5 (current route 9).

The temporary closure of access between the western subviso passage and rue du Simplon will be effective from Friday August 22 at 9 p.m. Monday 25 to 4 a.m. During this period, users will have to borrow the East Sub-shoulder passage or avenue William-Fraisse.

A bonus elevator

The operation will consist of placing a metal structure weighing 19 tonnes using a crane. This bridge will be completed by an elevator which will be installed in September, thus ensuring accessibility for all users.

The modernization and enlargement site of the Lausanne station, started in 2021, has already absorbed 530 million francs over a total budget of 1.7 billion. Current work includes the construction of the basement of the Place de la Gare, the new emergence of avenue Ruchonnet, the consolidation of the southern front of the station and the construction of the new spruce car park.

Next work in the end of 2026

The complete commissioning of the modernized station is scheduled for 2037. The next major work, concerning the transformation of the quays and the construction of the lower passages, should start at the end of 2026. The new quays will be put into service gradually between 2030 and 2036, starting with the Quai 5.

SBB specifies that the work has been organized to ensure the circulation of some 700 daily trains throughout the duration of the site and maintain the opening of all the services and businesses of the station.
