Canton of Vaud: Pilot project to better share the road in washing

The canton of Vaud launches a pilot project to encourage users on bicycle, on foot or by car to better cohabit on this emblematic axis very popular with tourists.

It is this kind of marking that users of the section will see on the ground.

Canton of Vaud

It will be necessary to slow down on the cantonal road of the small cornice, in washing. Indeed, it will welcome a pilot project to raise public awareness of the sharing of the road. From this month, 13 places in the section between the villages of Aran, Grandvaux and the “Carrefour du nose” will be equipped with colored floor markings inspired by the vine walls, announces the canton of Vaud on Wednesday.

“Frequented by a plurality of users – residents, winegrowers, pendulums, sports or tourists – this narrow and sinuous route illustrates the stakes of cohabitation within a space that is both limited and protected”, specifies the canton, which encourages bicycle and soft mobility. But “in certain sectors, topography or preservation of heritage and natural spaces do not always allow to separate the flows. Encouraging respect and peaceful cohabitation is then more than necessary to improve the safety of road users, “he explains.

Speed limited to 60 km/h

The ground markings will be affixed to the sensitive places of this emblematic route of washing, such as belvederes, crossroads, pedestrian roads, etc. They will be completed by lowering the speed to 60 km/h in order to moderate traffic and preserve the quality of life of local residents. A awareness campaign called “Have nose, raise your foot!” And an Internet page support this approach.

In addition, a monitoring in the form of counts, interviews and an online questionnaire will assess the effectiveness of these measures for possible sustainability and deployment on other similar axes of the cantonal road network.
