Livret A and LEP rate, gas price, back -to -school allowance: everything that changes on August 1, 2025

What are the changes to be expected from August 1, 2025? The beginning of the month will be little conducive to savings, with in particular the drop in remuneration for booklets A and LEP and the increase in value added tax (VAT) on gas and electricity subscriptions.

The rate of booklet A drops from 2.4 % to 1.7 %

The remuneration of the booklet A will drastically drop to August 1. 2.4 %, it drops to 1.7 %.

“This decision is motivated by a level of inflation which fell 0.88 % in the first half and by the central role of booklet A in the financing of the country’s economy,” explains the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty.

Concretely, a Frenchman with an average en-tours of 7000 euros will lose 50 euros in interest per year. And the one who reached the ceiling of 22,950 euros will receive 161 euros less.

The LEP rate goes from 3.5 % to 2.7 %

The remuneration of the popular savings book (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, is also preparing to decrease, but less than it could have done.

In accordance with the recommendation of the Banque de France, the ministry “will derogate from the regulatory formula” in this area in order to limit the drop in rate of this booklet. From 3.5 % on February 1, it will increase to 2.7 % on August 1 (and not to 2.2 %).

For an average en-tours of 6,580 euros, the shortfall will be 53 euros, and for 10,000 euros, it will be 80 euros.

VAT on energy bills increases

Another bad news for consumers: the increase in value added tax (VAT) on gas and electricity subscriptions. Those who start or are renewed from August 1 will be subject to a VAT of 20 %, instead of 5.5 %.

The government will compensate in part with the drop in two other taxes: the ex-TOTE (internal electricity consumption tax of electricity) and the Turpe (price for the use of public electricity distribution networks).

Additional costs for refractories to the Linky clock

As the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) announced, users who refuse to install a Linky counter will be applied additional costs: plus 6.48 euros every two months. “Additional costs of € 4.14” can also apply, “only if you have not transmitted your consumption indexes in Enedis for more than a year,” said the public service site.

Payment of the back -to -school allowance

Some good news all the same. The back -to -school allowance (ARS) will be paid to nearly three million beneficiaries on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in mainland France and in the departments of Guadeloupe, Guyana and Martinique. Beneficiaries of the departments of Mayotte and Reunion will receive it earlier on August 5.

Its amount is this year to € 423.48 per child aged 6 to 10, € 446.85 per child aged 11 to 14 and € 462.33 per child aged 15 to 18.

Finally, certain taxpayers concerned may receive on August 1 a transfer from the tax administration in the event of too paid or tax reductions and credits.
