Mont La Crapaudière put up for sale in Saint-Malachie

Mont La Crapaudière, in Saint-Malachie, was put up for sale by the municipality who hopes that the recreation-tourism vocation of the place is preserved. A ski center occupied the mountain until it closed in 2004.

The announcement of sale of the land was published online just over a month ago, by the Landerz agency. We learn that the site, bordered by the Etchemin river, has an area of almost 10 million square feet.

The municipality, owner of the land, specifies no price for its acquisition. Rather, she invites those interested to buy it to contact her to submit their projects to her for the site which will have to keep her recreational tourism vocation.

An abandoned project

The municipality of Saint-Malachie acquired Mont La Crapaudière in 2015. The mayor Quigley recalls that it was planning to set up an outdoor park there, but that the project was abandoned.

In recent years, around twenty residential land has been sold by the municipality on the side of the mountain.

Larry Quigley dreams that within two years, the majority of residential owners on the mountain have built their residence and that a recreational tourism project was born on the toadie.

In activity from 1988 to 2004

It was in the summer of 2004 that senator Michel Biron, then owner of the La Crapaudière ski center, announced its closure, causing the loss of about sixty jobs.

At the time, the city had invested more than $ 500,000 in the aqueduct network to comply with the standards and allow the toadon to have an adequate system, but that had proven to be insufficient.

Mr. Biron said in an interview on Radio-Canada in 2004 that he had loss of more than a million dollars in the last three years of activity in the ski center.

In 2009, the Crapaudière ski lift was sold at the Mont-Comi ski resort in Bas-Saint-Laurent, for around a million dollars.
