The inhabitants of the city of Musgrave Harbor, located on the northeast coast in Newfoundland and Labrador, were evacuated Sunday because of an uncontrolled forest fire.
The provincial ministry for justice and public security broadcast an alert on Sunday morning to ask residents to evacuate the city.
“The fire currently covers around 1,700 hectares and is around two kilometers from the city of Musgrave Harbor,” said the alert.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Forests and Agriculture has land-fighting land resources and air support, including four water bombers, surveillance plane and crews, it said.
Sunday at 6.30 p.m., the fire was moving south and east. “We plan that it will cross the highway towards the commemorative Banting park [dimanche soir] or [dans la nuit de dimanche à lundi]», We added.
According to the dashboard of the government of Newfoundland and Labrador, six forest fires were active on Sunday evening in the province.
