The more than 10,000 Air Canada and Air Canada Red Air Canada will rule today, on Monday, July 28, on the holding of a possible strike mandate, various media report.
If they choose this option, the activities of the carrier could be disrupted on August 20.
“The strike of the Air Canada component will start at 2:00 p.m. (HAE) on July 28, 2025 and end at 2:00 p.m. on August 5, 2025,” said the Canadian Public Service Syndicate (SCFP), which represents Air Canada and Red Air Canada, on its social networks, as reported by the Montreal Journal.
Unsuccessful negotiations
According to the union, this escalation stems from months from unsuccessful negotiations between the SCFP and the airline.
Since April, discussions have been stalling on crucial issues: wages, working hours, conditions of employment and rest time.
According to an article in Radio-Canada, on-board agents particularly denounce their remuneration which they consider derisory-$ 1,951 per month for hiring-and having to work long hours without adequate compensation.
Questioned by the Journal de Montréal, Air Canada, for its part, minimizes the impact of the union threat that hovers over its head. This is a normal negotiation process, she said.
“This kind of vote is part of the normal negotiation process and does not necessarily mean that a disturbance will occur,” said the company.
“Air Canada maintains its commitment to the negotiation process and is fully prepared to work at the conclusion of a fair and fair convention with the SCFP. »»
