Ontario imposes the return to the office on all civil servants

The government of Doug Ford will force all public service employees to return to work at the office five days a week from January.

The return to face -down work will be made gradually: as of October 20, employees who are already going to the office three days a week will have to travel 4 days a week.

All civil servants, including those working for provincial agencies, will have to work at the full -time office from January 5, 2026.

This directive therefore affects the more than 60,000 civil servants employed by ministries, government organizations and companies in the Ontario Crown.

The provincial government thus follows the steps to more and more Canadian companies, including large banks.

The return to a standard of five days a week at the office reflects the current situation of the workforce in the province, affirms by press release the president of the Treasury Board, Caroline Mulroney, adding that this measure reflects The evolution of standards of presence at the office for organizations of the public and private sectors.

More than half of the employees of the public service were already back in face-to-face, she specifies.

Passing through Pickering for an announcement Thursday, Prime Minister Doug Ford would like to thank provincial employees, qualifying the Ontario Public Service as Best in Canada.

I think everyone is more productive at work. How to supervise someone by phone? It is impossible.

The association of managers, administrative and professional employees of the Ontario Crown (Amapceo), which represents around 16,500 employees of the public service, protested against this measure in a press release.

The Secretary of the Council of Ministers [qui dirige la fonction publique de l’Ontario, NDLR] Now use the policy to impose what could not be torn from us during free and fair collective negotiations, says it CEO fromPCEOsDave Bulmer.
