San Francisco (Reuters) – Openai should soon unveil its new artificial intelligence model (AI) GPT -5, almost three years after the launch of the Chatgpt conversational robot by the American company.
Two of the first testers of the new AI model told Reuters that he had been impressed by his ability to code and solve scientific and mathematical problems.
The testers, forced by confidentiality agreements, have requested anonymity for this article. They believe that progress between GPT-4 and GPT-5 is however less important than those between GPT-3 and GPT-4.
Openai refused to comment on this article.
The leap in front of GPT-4 was based on a more important computing power and data. Openai hoped that a similar “scaling” would systematically lead to improved AI models.
But the company, supported by Microsoft, encountered difficulties.
One of the problems is the data wall to which the company has encountered, conversational agents and chatgpt requiring a large amount of data generated by humans. Former Openai chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, said last year that if the processing power increased, the amount of data remained stable.
In addition to lack of data, “training cycles” can also cause problems. These, for large models, are more likely to experience failures induced by the material given the complexity of the system. Researchers may not know the final performance of the models before the end of the execution, which can take months.
Openai has not yet specified when GPT-5 would be available but the sector expects an imminent outing, several media reported.
Boris Power, head of research applied at Openai, said on Monday in an article published on X: “I can’t wait to see how the public will welcome GPT-5.”
“Openai has brought such a leap between GPT-3 and GPT-4 that, since then, the wait for GPT-5 is immense,” observes Navin Chaddha, director of the venture capital fund Mayfield, who invests in IA companies-without being an investor at Openai.
“We hope that GPT-5 will allow AI applications to go beyond the simple chat to provide a fully autonomous task execution.”
The valuation of Openai is currently estimated at $ 300 billion. According to a source, the creator of Chatgpt began discussions about a potential transfer of employee shares which would bring valuation to around 500 billion.
