Vietnam authorities have planned to carry out more than 300,000 evacuations and have canceled more than a dozen flights on the eve of the expected arrival of Typhon Kajiki.
325,500 inhabitants will be moved to schools and public buildings transformed into temporary evacuation centers. The national company Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet announced the cancellation of air links.
The storm should touch the ground on the east coast of Vietnam on Monday. “The situation is extremely dangerous and it is not sure for any vehicle or structure, such as tourist or fishing vessels, as well as aquaculture facilities,” said the disaster management service.
Typhoon Kajiki runs along the southern coast of China with winds reaching almost 170 kilometers per hour, according to the joint alert center for typhoons, and it should further strengthen.
Strong precipitation is expected on Monday and Tuesday, with winds likely to affect electrical infrastructure, transport and other sectors. This is the fifth tropical cyclone to strike Vietnam this year.
The tropical seaside resort of Hainan, China, noted its level of emergency on Sunday to the highest degree and evacuated 20,000 inhabitants.
