Preventive vaccination against rabies in the Acton MRC and Estrie – FM 103.7

The Ministry of the Environment will distribute vaccine baits until September 20 to prevent the rage of the raccoon in 68 municipalities in Montérégie and Estrie.

In the Acton MRC, the targeted localities include Roxton, Roxton Falls, Bethany, Acton Vale, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saint-Liboire and Upton. In Estrie, the operation touches among others Dunham, Granby, Roxton Pond and Sherbrooke.
In a territory of 7,016 km², 635,000 baits are divided by aircraft, helicopter or manual spreading.
Since July, these municipalities have been part of a reinforced surveillance area after detecting cases in Quebec, even if none has been identified locally since January 2024.
Citizens are invited to protect their animals, to report suspicious wild animals and to consult a veterinarian to maintain vaccination of their animals up to date.
