Renault Megane e-tech: the prices make the yoyo and fall strong

Renault attempted a repositioning of its electric Megane by removing the EV40 version. But the discounts are XXL now.

Renault is faced with a cruel dilemma: how to position the Megane e-tech in its catalog? Very successful, reliable, relevant and efficient product, it suffers only from a conception, which is not so distant but which requires a fairly high cost price.

Since then, Renault has put itself in an industrial working order to produce much cheaper electric cars and especially with a strong personality. The R5, the R4, tomorrow the Twingo, the range of access to the electric is beautiful. Then come the Megane and the Scenic. In the top 10 sales of new and electric cars in France, we find all these Renault today.

Technology is democratized, prices fall, but we come back to the same problem: how to position the Megane. Because the manufacturers are all forced to the same equation: the sales volumes collapsed with the electric … but the margins have exploded.

Reason why the economic model still resists, but for how long, especially in front of the Chinese? In the meantime, the Renault pyramid has already forced the French manufacturer to a difficult decision: to remove the small battery version of the Megane, the EV40. Yet the best sold because they are affordable and relevant with its contained but sufficient power of 130 horsepower.

For the past few months, only the EV60 version, with 220 horsepower, has been offered. A rationalization that allows Renault savings, and therefore an ability to slightly cut its margins. The market is sensitive to it, and sales are maintained. But you must offer strong discounts.

In this month of August 2025, while attendance in concessions is naturally down, promotions are multiplying. And the megane e-tech does not escape it, so much so that we are a little lost.

By lowering the price of its copies soon in stock of more than 4,500 euros – before deduction of the EEC bonus – Renault resème. Because a compact with a 60 kWh battery, generous power, complete equipment and good recharge capacity (11 kW in AC, 130 kW in DC), we are really not bad.

By integrating the EEC premium in a minimum amount of 3100 euros, the Renault Megane E-Tech therefore now falls at 32,685 euros. It is barely a few thousand more than the R5 much less complete, habitable, comfortable and generous in autonomy.

Renault is still looking for the positioning of its Megane, and it is up to the consumer to know how to take advantage of it. The windfall is dreamed …
