Donald Trump said on Friday that he had ordered the positioning of two American nuclear submarines in response to “provocateurs” remarks of the former Russian president Dmitri Medvedev. The announcement was not confirmed by the American military authorities.

(Keystone-ATS) “I ordered that two nuclear submarines are positioned in the appropriate areas, in case these silly and incendiary declarations are more serious than that. Words count and can often have unforeseen consequences, I hope this will not be the case this time, “wrote the American president on his social social network.

In a message published on July 28 on X, the Russian leader, current number two of the country’s Security Council, had written that each new ultimatum set by Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine “was a threat and a step towards war” with the United States.

Threat of economic sanctions

Donald Trump threatens to impose hard economic sanctions against Russia if his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin does not cease hostilities in Ukraine by the end of next week.

The American president is considering in particular so-called “secondary” sanctions, that is to say inflicted on countries which buy Russian oil, with the aim of drying up this essential source of income for the Russian war machine.

Spectacular

The 79 -year -old republican had operated a spectacular rapprochement with Vladimir Putin, convinced that his good relationship with the Russian leader would allow him to stop the war in Ukraine, triggered by the Russian invasion of February 2022.

This promise has long fired and gave way at Donald Trump to growing frustration towards the master of the Kremlin.
