Sifu’s creators recognize that it is normal for their fans to feel disappointed

Sifu quickly established itself as one of the most remarkable independent video games of recent years, attracting a large base of fans thanks to its innovative aging mechanics by dying and a very demanding martial combat system. Many fans were waiting for a suite after the success of this title, which led to disappointment when Rematch, a new video game focused on Arcade football, was announced. The announcement, which was welcomed in terms of playability, has left a lot of bitter taste because of their unsettled expectations.

A very different game from expectations

Pierre Tarno, creative director of Sloclap, addressed the disappointment of fans during a recent interview with Gamesradar. He recognized that the communication and marketing strategy behind the announcement of Rematch was not the most effective. “We regret saying that some sifu fans felt disappointed when the game was revealed,” said Tarno, who still deplores the confusion caused by the revelation trailer that suggested a possible Sifi 2.

The creative director explained that after a year and a half of post-launch support for sifu-with updates and additional content-the team said that it had already explored all the possibilities of the original game. “We felt that we had given everything we had in Sifu,” he said, before clarifying that, although a future return of the franchise was not excludedfor the moment, they prefer to let him rest.

In addition, Tarno stressed that the study approach is to continue to create in a daring and creative way, avoiding excessive expansion and limiting its budgets to a more manageable scale, between $ 50 and 100 million. This philosophy could be a sign that Sloclap is engaged in its Indie identity, favoring innovation rather than the major budgets typical of industry.
