Snow in summer for this region of Quebec

The heat is in full swing in southern Quebec at least until Thursday. Meanwhile, another region of the beautiful province is rather entitled to a program with winter looks. Forecast.

Sweats and chills

A humidx index that reaches 40 and snow? Yes, yes: obviously these two situations are possible during the summer, in Quebec! The territory of Quebec is vast while some soven with large drops in a corner of the province, others reconnect with the Tuque. Indeed, from Tuesday evening to Thursday afternoon, a system which is in a way an extension of the one that crossed southern Quebec Sunday and Monday will be in action further north. “A system will spin on the northern tip of the province. There could be enough cold air to change the rain into snow, at times, in certain sectors. This mixture of precipitation could dominate in the northern regions from 24 to 36 hours, “said Patrick Duplessis, meteorologist.

Rain or snow? The seasons are mixed!

And this is how, by Thursday afternoon, these flakes become possible, in places. Since the snow will be largely melting, precipitation should not stay on the ground. There is still a possibility of having a small white carpet for the Saluit, Ivujivik, Kangiqsujuaq and Akulivik sectors.

Note that by Friday morning, abundant rain is also on the program in northern Quebec. The Salluit and Akulivik sectors could receive up to 30 mm of rain, but accumulations could be more important in Ivujivik. From 50 to 75 mm of rain is planned.

Unusual, but not exceptional

For Wednesday, the contrast between snow that could fall on the northern tip of Quebec and the temperatures felt up to 41 in the south of the province is quite impressive. Snow in summer; We will have seen everything … it can actually give this impression. However, it is not surprisingly not so unusual! On July 24, 2024, Salluit was entitled to 3 cm of snow. During the summer of 2013, several communities in northern Quebec received snow precipitation at the beginning of July, notably Salluit and Ivujivik.

A similar episode occurred in July 2008 and, still a little further in time, in July 2004. Virtually at the same time as this year … Decidedly, summer snow seems to have its little habits!
