Support for community interventions aimed at fighting the crisis of illegal toxic drugs and overdoses in Atlantic Canada

Funding will be granted as a priority to urgent community needs

Today, the Honorable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health, announced the granting of $ 2.8 million from the Emergency Fund for Treatment (FUT) in order to support four projects in Atlantic Canada.

These investments will directly support the communities of Fredericton and Miramichi, New Brunswick, Amherst, Nova Scotia, and St. John’s, in Newfoundland.

The was part of the commitments made by the Government of Canada to support communities in order to quickly intervene with the urgent needs caused by the deaf crisis which affects the municipalities and the indigenous, inuit and metisse communities. The fund supports a range of urgent interventions which aim to develop local capacities in order to help the most affected populations.

Minister Michel insisted on a traveling awareness project led by the city of Fredericton and the company John Howard. This project will intensify awareness efforts in Fredericton, New Brunswick, by offering night services designed to help vulnerable populations ensuring them supplies, transport to essential services, naloxone, help in the event of overdose and weather alerts throughout the year.
