The movable is worried about the rise in natural disasters

“The movable is particularly present outside of urban areas. The amount is therefore important, “said the director general in an interview with the newspaper Le Temps published on Sunday.

The insurer The movable paid more than 100 million francs for the victims of the village of Blatten in Valais, after the landslide that occurred in May. For the fifth consecutive year, the costs of natural disasters are higher than average. A heavy trend that concerns the director general Michèle Rodoni.

“In Valais, buildings are covered by private insurance. Our market share in things insurance is 30%. In addition, the movable is particularly present outside of urban areas. The amount is therefore important, ”explained the director general in an interview with the newspaper Time published on Sunday.

On May 28, the landslide caused 320 million francs in damage. Including most (260 million) relates to buildings and movable property, according to an estimate of the Swiss pool for natural damage. This is the most important disaster in the history of private insurance claims for over 70 years.

“The pool plans to pay a deposit up to 75% of the amount of insurance in the event of total damage. The remaining 25% will be paid in the event of reconstruction or reinvestment within five years in a property used for the same use and located in Valais, ”explains Ms. Rodoni.

For the director general, the Solidarity Mechanism of the Pool has proven itself, “but it lacks a major natural risk, earthquakes. The inclusion in the pool of seismic risk, widely underestimated, would however be easy to set up and would not cost much more. ”

In May, the movable reassured its strategic orientation “Advantage 2030” with in particular the sale of its Trianon subsidiary at the employers’ center in order to focus on activities that directly support its core business, namely insurance and provident affairs in Switzerland.

“Two platforms give us satisfaction, however,” said Rodoni. The Bexio and Swiss Marketplace Group management software company, which has announced its intention to go on the stock market.
