Discover Icansend, the new free and unlimited file transfer tool. Its particularity: the files are sent directly from one device to another, without going through a server, offering the level of maximum safety and confidentiality.
While the online file sharing sector is shaken by the controversy around Wetransfer, the famous file transfer service via the Internet – after having discreetly modified its conditions of use, it was accused of using shared files to train AI and had to reverse (see our article) -, the question of confidentiality of the data exchanged is more than ever. Indeed, to exchange files, users are forced to go through an intermediary, namely the server of a company, which temporarily stores them. But you still have to trust him!
Aware of this issue, the French company Say See Show has decided to opt for a radically different approach by developing Icsend, a direct, secure file transfer tool, without size limits and above all without server. A solution that therefore meets two of the biggest challenges in file transfer: the size limits – to which Mega had started to tackle with Transfer.it – and confidentiality problems. And in addition, it is completely free and without advertising.
Icansend: a maximum level of security for transfer
Unlike conventional sending services, Icansend Carry out a direct device to device (P2P), without the files passing or being stored on an intermediate server. The connection between the devices is ensured via a twinning code – we will come back to this after – which then establishes a webrtc tunnel (Web real-time communication) by which the files pass. The connection is encrypted from start to finish between the sender and the recipient, which guarantees that no one – not even the supplier, the ISP or an intruder on the network – can intercept or read the data. No copy is stored in the cloud.
In order to guarantee the technical integrity of the transfer, Icsend has a CRC verification (For Cyclic Redundancy Check, or cyclical redundancy control in French). It is a digital imprint generated from the content of a file, which is checked when sending and receiving. It allows you to be sure that the file received corresponds well to the file sent, and therefore that it has not been altered along the way.
The other advantage with Icansend is that sending files leaves absolutely no trace. Indeed, as there is no account required to use the tool, the user remains anonymous, without providing an email or identifier address. In addition, unlike “classic” download of transfer tools, the files received are not temporarily stored in the memory or the browser cover, but directly streamped to the destination folder – for example, “downloads”. Likewise, since the files do not pass through the Icansend servers, they have no trace of activity or content sent to the history. And, of course, the site does not use cookies. In short, it is the maximum level of confidentiality!
Icsend: How to send files in real time?
So, in concrete terms, how does Icansend work? How does it work? As we said, the tool requires no registration or software installation. Just go to https://icansend.com or install the application, and click on “Invite a device” to generate a temporary code. For security reasons, it is only valid for two minutes. The recipient fits this code in the corresponding entry field, and the direct connection is established in a few seconds.
The user then chooses the files to send, or deposits them directly in the dedicated area. It only remains to launch the transfer and to follow its progress in real time. An integrated cat allows in parallel to exchange messages in complete confidentiality. On the recipient side, there is absolutely nothing to do, not even to launch the download, which is automatic. Once he has communicated his code to the sender, everything is automatic. It’s minimum effort!
The last advantage of this system is that there is no size restriction regarding files, as is often the case with “classic” transfer tools. Whether it is 4K video projects, large archives or full data sets, the only limit is the storage space on the reception device and, of course, the quality of the Internet connection. This should upset the file transfer sector!
