The mayor of the town of Villeneuve-de-Marc, Gilles Dussault, was violently attacked this Wednesday, August 6. The 63 -year -old councilor and her 28 -year -old son were taken to the streets by a man still wanted this Thursday morning by the police.

The assault took place Chemin de la Chapelle at the end of the afternoon while the elected official was walking with his son. According to initial information, “The two victims were struck using a blunt object”, specify the help of Isère.

The attacker fled aboard a car before hitting a wall. He then continued his flight on foot. The Minister of Health, Yannick Neuder, former president of the community of communes Bièvre-Isère, to which Villeneuve-de-Marc belongs, also supported the mayor and his assaulted son: “All my thoughts go to them and their families. It is more than time to say stop to these violence. Zero tolerance”, he denounced.

The reaction of the president of the Department of Isère was not long in coming. A few hours after the facts, Jean-Pierre Barbier expressed his “Emotion and his indignation after the odious assault that was victims of the mayor of Villeneuve-de-Marc and his son at the end of the afternoon.” He also wished them “A speedy recovery” Before clarifying that he does “Confidence in our police to quickly find the attacker.”

For his part, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Fabrice Pannekoucke, said that his “Anger is immense this evening in the face of the assault of Gilles Dussault, mayor of our region. On behalf of the region, I want to express our deepest support to it. Mayors are essential actors in our local life: republican order must protect them”, he wrote on X.
