Context
Since 2022, the resurgence of MPOX in several regions of the world has highlighted the need for integrated and multisectoral approaches in terms of detection, response and management. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). where MPOX remains endemic. constantly evolving, screening and monitoring efforts must be strengthened and aligned with other public health priorities, including the fight against HIV and sexually transmitted (IST) infections.
Recent data reveal a high prevalence of HIV among people with MPOX. as well as increased risk of severe forms of disease in immunocompromised people. In response to these observations. the integration of HIV. syphilis screening into MPOX screening services represents a strategic opportunity to improve early detection, strengthen community health systems and guarantee a more coordinated and focusing response of theory practice new the populations at risk.
In 2025. the WHO developed a standard operating protocol (SOP) aimed at theory practice guiding the integration of HIV. syphilis screening services with that of MPOX, as part of emergency responses to MPOX outbreaks. This document details the procedures to follow so that HIV. syphilis tests are systematically proposed during mpox screening, as well as additional examinations for diagnosed. It is intended for health professionals, laboratories and partners involved in the implementation of tests and treatments.
In this context. this webinar aims to present the technical. operational and programmatic bases to support the implementation of this integrated approach in the DRC. It will bring together national. international experts. implementation partners, as well as representatives of HIV, IST and monitoring of emerging diseases, to share experiences, discuss challenges and continue the deployment of this strategy in the field in order to demonstrate the possibility of this integration and theory practice new to be able to promote its use in other contexts/countries.
