L’UBB breaks with habits. While they had completed their pre-season internship in Loudenvielle, in the heart of the Pyrenees, during the first two years of manager Yannick Bru, the Bordeaux will take over the direction of Faro, in the far south of Portugal. Five days after the resumption of training on Wednesday at Ceva Campus de Bègles at the end of five weeks of rest, a large delegation took off on Sunday evening from Mérignac airport. It will remain until next Saturday in this seaside resort with high -level facilities, where training such as the England Rugby team, the Toulouse stadium or Barça have already prepared.
Most part of the UBB group will be present. The executives such as Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Matthieu Jalibert, Damian Penaud, Maxime Lucu and Yoram Moefana, all very asked throughout the last season during which the UBB won the final of Champions Cup and disputed that of Top 14, will obviously be. “They came back with great freshness and envy,” appreciates Yannick Bru. “It feels good, we feel that we have gone on something new. »»
They will also be accompanied by tricolor internationals who took part in the tour in New Zealand with the XV of France in July (Depoortere, Vergnes, Bochaton, Woki, Barlot). They agreed to take only three of the four weeks of vacation to which they could claim this summer, Yannick Bru will grant them the last by the end of the calendar year.
Plan anti-routine
For new recruits such as the third line Cameron Woki and the hooker Gaëtan Barlot, this little “sacrifice” should be particularly useful. “We’re going to build a lot of things in terms of state of mind during this internship. We will elect our leaders and we will also define performance, behavior objectives, “observes Yannick Bru. “It would be like missing an integration seminar, even if they will obviously have an appropriate schedule: half-teeth, half-vacances. »»
“The challenge for the staff will be to renew things”
Obviously, the Bordeaux will not be content to perform only meetings during this Portuguese week. The program is dedicated to rugby. After three days of intense physical work, the group will reconnect with the method of physical preparation designed by Thibault Giroud, performance manager, which promotes physiological work integrated into rugby. It is with this well -rooted objective in mind that the Bordeaux decided to go to Faro.
“In general, on pre -season internships, I prefer to make it simple and effective,” explains Yannick Bru. “We had gone to Loudenvielle who was super adapted. But the “physical preparation” cell was looking for a place with a lot of heat: there are physiological adaptations in such conditions. »In stress, the body pushes its limits more efficiently. Useful precision, the decision to go to Portugal had been taken at the end of last season. Long before the Bordeaux staff only knew the thermometer was going to tu the 40 ° degrees at the start of the week in the southwest.
Yannick Bru did not twist his nose anyway when he has read the weather forecast for the next few days. Because the change of scenery enabled by this trip will respond to one of his other concerns at the dawn of his third season in Gironde: “It was necessary a little change in year 3. The challenge for the staff will be to renew things for a routine to settle. »»
