Up to 18 euros (or more) for one night: here is the ranking of cities where residence taxes are the highest, in Europe

Airbnb changes its cancellation conditions: the hosts will boost their turnover!

This is why we find several Greek cities in the ranking of European cities presenting the largest stay taxes, in 2025. published by the Holidu reservation platform, it includes some surprises, such as the first place in Amsterdam, with a climbing tourist tax up to € 18.45!

After verification, this amount is possible, but not automatic. In Amsterdam, it is necessary to pay a tax which represents 12.5 % of the price of the accommodation. For a hotel room at € 150 (which corresponds to a standard of the market, for a 4 -star hotel, editor’s note), the tax will therefore climb to € 18. But even for a room at € 80, the tax will remain the highest in the ranking!

For the rest, the amounts indicated – for one night and per person – represent an average between the different types of housing (hotels, campsites, holiday villages, etc.), the generally practiced prices and the “classification” of housing (in Paris, Milan or even Rome, the tax is higher as you climb in the stars, for hotels for example).

Some cities also require an additional tax. In Cologne, tourists must pay a tax of “cultural promotion”.
