Vaud: The small washable cornice adopts a “Wall of Vine” marking
Pedestrian cohabitation, bikes and cars … The development and awareness -raising pilot project is at the end of the cantonal road to the breathtaking view. Effective?
The new marking.
DRA pilot project for development and awareness on the cantonal road of the small Corniche, in washing, is at a touching end, communicates the state of Vaud. It will be operational in August.
Located in the heart of a region listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the small cornice is winding between Lutry and Grandvaux via Aran. It provides access to chexbres and crosses riex and swords. The road, sometimes narrow, is taken as much by cars as by pedestrians and bikes. A small train (on tires) tourist also circulates there regularly. It offers a breathtaking view of the lavaux terraces and Lake terraces.
Renovation work was undertaken a few weeks ago. The roadway has been rewarded and the works of art were sanitized thanks to cantonal funding of 1.5 million francs.
The pilot project aims to encourage respect and appease traffic on an exceptional site, specifies the state of Vaud. For present cases, it is found that “the topography or the preservation of heritage and natural spaces do not always allow to separate the flows”.
Speed limited to 60 km/h
All of this results in new colored markings on the road inspired by vine walls. They are applied to thirteen singular places of the route. These markings are supplemented by lowering the speed to 60 km/h.
A awareness campaign accompanies this approach. Called “Have a nose, raise your foot!”, She relies on a dozen messages like this in reference to the local context which calls for vigilance, courtesy and mutual respect by valuing a peaceful circulation. Followers of hiking to motorized vehicle users, including cyclists, all audiences are affected.
The effectiveness of these measures, with a view to possible sustainability and deployment on other similar axes of the cantonal road network, must still be assessed.
This project is carried out by the canton, in collaboration with the municipalities of Bourg-en-Lavaux and Lutry as well as the Lavaux Patrimoine World and Police Lavaux.
