A 33 -year -old man known to police services, Abdeck Ibrahim, was killed on the night of Monday to Tuesday. The murder occurred around 0:45 am in place of peace in the district of Ville-Marie. Everything suggests that Abdeck Ibrahim was the person targeted by this attack.

According to Glenn Castanheira, CEO of Montreal Center-Ville, this kind of events contributes to a bad reputation of the city center and a drop in the feeling of security for customers. He does not chew his words: the impacts on shops are enormous.

According to him, the foundation of an economy is based on security and cleanliness. “If it is not safe or it’s not clean, people will not go. »»

A situation like this “gives the impression that the city center is not safe, when it is. »»

Merchants are sorry for the decline in the feeling of security among citizens, notes Castanheira. “Employees do not always feel safe when they leave or arrive overnight or very early in the morning. »»

Uncomfortable employees

“Of course it worries me,” said Haitam Elouahli, assistant manager at the Layer-Tard, in front of the Place de la Paix. “Working here is difficult. »»

Flights are common, maintains Mr. Elouahli. “Every day, people try to fly. He shows the blue he was made following an altercation with a person who had a flight attempt. He rushed into the door with his arm trying to hold the person.

At night, the employee who makes his work quarter is alone. “It is not enough,” deplores Haitam Elouahli.

Same observation at the Zero 1 hotel, located at the corner of the René-Lévesque and Saint-Laurent boulevards. “Our customers tell us that they do not feel safe,” says manager Lea Sun.

Following an altercation a few months ago at the hotel, where a homeless person darkened aggressively in the front door, employees at the reception are now two during the night quarters.

The vagaries of the city center

At the Central, a catering area in front of the Place de la Paix, the restaurant manager Charles Aubry does not see any fear from his employees. “It would worry me if the victim was not known in the police, that civilians were attacked for example. »»

Without wanting to be insensitive, he still specifies that this kind of event is a part of the reality of the city center. His “family and cultural” clientele does not seem to be worried either, according to his observations.

For Nicolas Tremblay, assistant manager and barista at the Café Sat, right next to the Place de la Paix, working in this neighborhood is sometimes unpleasant, but not worrying. He is not often witness to violence, but rather people in homelessness who strolls to coffee.

Current survey

The police investigation launched in the morning on Tuesday is still underway. The file was taken care of by the major crimes section. The author of the crime has not yet been identified.

A call for emergency services was made overnight, reporting shots heard in place of peace.

Once there, the emergency services have located the victim on the ground. The paramedics and the police began resuscitation maneuvers. A few moments later, the death of Abdeck Ibrahim was noted, described the spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service, Julien Lévesque.
