We are talking about indigenous cases when a person has contracted the disease on the national territory and has not traveled in the contaminated zone within 15 days preceding the appearance of symptoms. As a reminder, chikungunya is transmitted from person to person, only through the bite of a mosquito (tiger mosquito present in metropolitan France) infected by the chikungunya virus.
The little boy’s state of health is stable and it came out of hospitalization. Demoustication operations have started around the places frequented by the child in order to eliminate adult mosquitoes and larval lodges. They are led by the operator Altopictus, mandated by ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine. A field survey is also launched, with door-to-door visits by ARS, public health France and the town hall, to identify possible symptoms (fever, joint pain, rash, etc.).
The population of Illats is called upon to strengthen prevention gestures: mosquito nets, covering clothes, fans, and skin repellents – especially in the morning and at the end of the day, after advice in pharmacies.
