Android alarming safety flaw found in Chrome is finally corrected

Chrome is the most used browser on Android. You could therefore be able to imagine that it has all the advanced tools and protections for users. However, this is not the case: it is lacking a key biometric verification for automatic filling of passwords, which could expose users and their data. Fortunately, it seems that a correction for this critical flaw is being developed.

The accounts and passwords on Chrome are managed by Google’s password manager. This includes an automatic filling function that simplifies the process by avoiding the manual entry steps for your data on websites.

Chrome has a major safety flaw

Unlike dedicated applications, the automatic chrome filling function does not include a verification step, which allows you to directly enter passwords on sites without digital or facial imprint. This opens a breach in cases where someone has access to your phone and can enter your identification information on websites. This person can then perform malicious actions with your connected accounts.

It seems that a correction is planned for this flaw. In fact, a new index on this subject was identified by Micah, a user of Telegram, who expressed his discovery to Android Authority. The editor -in -chief of the site has confirmed that the vital functionality to repair this flaw was indeed being developed.

In Google’s password manager settings, the verification button when using automatic filling has been reworked and includes a new formulation. In addition to the text “for increased protection, always use your fingerprint, your face or another screen lock when you connect using automatic filling”, it adds a line in parentheses which says “soon in Chrome”, strongly suggesting that the same support could soon happen in the browser.

We do not yet know when we can take advantage of this security change and if we will have a button dedicated to Chrome on Android. Nevertheless, it is a great relief to know that this major gap is being corrected.

The accent put by Android on safety

In addition to upcoming improvement, Google has worked to strengthen Android security and confidentiality functions. For example, it implemented limited parameters when changing safety and anti -theft protection functions in Android 15. The latter has been improved in Android 16 with offline locking and offline mode.
