REPORTAGE – It is the sixteenth excavation campaign on the Angeac-Charente site, near Angoulême. This extremely rich site in fossils reveals surprises and new species to study each year.
“Twenty years ago, if we wondered Where to find dinosaurs we surely didn’t answer in Charente ”, Ensures a representative of the Angeac-Charente paleontological excavation site. However, it would have been enough for a well -placed shovel to reveal a most exceptional paleontological deposit. In 2010, Angeac-Charente was a very small village of less than 400 souls 18 kilometers from Angoulême, which has never really been talked about.
The site has been known for receiving mammoth bones or flints for twenty years. As they work in a career in the town, workers believe they once again fall on an ancient elephant fossil, and send it to the Angoulême museum to be appraised. But the supposed fossil of pachyderm turns out to be that of another big critters: a dinosaur.
