While vacation departures led on Saturday up to 11 km of cork in front of the northern entrance to the Gothard, the queue on Sunday was barely reduced, 10 kilometers shortly before 4:00 p.m. This represents an expectation that can go up to 1:40.

(Keystone-ATS) The TCS recommends to vacationers by car south to borrow either the axes of the Grand-St-Bernard or the Simplon for those who come from French-speaking Switzerland, or the A13 by the San Bernardino for those of the North. This highway was however also overloaded at the height of Tamins towards Coire, the delays of up to 20 minutes.

On the A2, in front of the southern portal of the Gothard, between Quinto and the Airolo rest area in Ticino, traffic was also blocked on Sunday afternoon over 3 km, an waiting time of about 30 minutes.

The Gothard caps started in the night from Friday to Saturday. From four in the morning, the volume of traffic increased quickly. In the early morning, the vehicles were already blocked over ten kilometers, according to the TCS.

The Federal Roads Office (OFROU) is expecting long traffic jams and significant traffic restrictions in Gothard due to vacation departures from early July to mid-September, especially Friday to Sunday.
