Apple’s house repair program arrives in Canada

More than three years after the launch of the home repair program in the United States, and after its launch in Europe, Apple makes it officially accessible today everything you need to repair 65 different devices yourselflike textbooks, explanatory videos, spare parts and various tools, which can be purchased or rented.

The program had been welcomed fairly lukewarmly, but it has evolved a lot since its launch. Not only more repairs and more models can benefit from it (you can repair up to an iPhone 12), but you can also use used parts or even third parties for your repairs, which was not always the case when the program is launched in the United States.

The reparability of several Apple products, especially the iPhone, has also improved in recent years, which contributes to making the program more interesting than in 2022. Replacing the battery of an iPhone 16 is thus easier than replacing that of an iPhone 12, and you can replace some more parts yourself (such as the main microphone, for example).

If it is necessary to rely at the prices of the repair shop in the United States, the work that you will do at home will not however be systematically cheaper than those you would have done by a professional, or even by Apple directly, but they could be in some cases, especially if you do not have too many tools to buy.

In short, the next time your iPhone, iPad or Mac will break, you will have one more option to consider, at least if you are skillful with your hands.

Note that Apple also launches today in Canada a distribution program of official parts for independent repairers who are not affiliated or authorized by Apple, which should make it possible to take advantage of original parts in a greater variety of shops than at present, and to have access to a greater variety of repairs, especially outside the large centers.
