At the Arles meetings, the eight favorite exhibitions of criticisms of the “world”

The list of the morning

The touching images around a paternal absence, contemporary visions of Australia, raw photographs of the Neapolitan mafia, of the street photography In Paris and New York, the first works of the Brazilian Claudia Andujar… Here are eight exhibitions not to be missed in Arles (Bouches-du-Rhône).

The crossing of the memory of Raphaëlle Peria

Raphaëlle Peria:

Raphaëlle Peria knew the old photos of her father well, taken aboard a barge by going up the Rhône canal when she was 3 years old. But she did not find in these images the sensations that remained engraved in her memory.

Thirty years later, the artist has therefore meticulously scraped photos with surgery tools, creating with flags of paper as well as with games of materials (plexiglass, copper paper) a whole different world, more in line with his memories, where the bushes become jungles, the shadows contain caves. The opportunity also to accentuate the presence-absence of the plane trees bordering the Rhône, attacked by a fungus, and which become in its images ghostly silhouettes. A very successful journey between past, present and imaginary.
