In Geneva, swimming in the Rhône downstream from the underground bridge is allowed again. The Geneva authorities raised, on Wednesday, the ban on Tuesday evening, after the discovery of an oil leak occurred at the end of the day at the level of the barrage of the only one.
The other current activities in the Rhône, such as fishing, are also authorized, indicate the Department of Territory, the Department of Health and Mobility and the Industrial Services of Geneva (GIS) in a press release.
The oil leak occurred on a SIG site was quickly processed by the company responsible for work. Some 70 liters of biodegradable oil spilled into the Rhône. Due to the flow of the river, the product was quickly diluted.

No health problem linked to this incident was noted by the cantonal doctor’s service and no impact on natural circles has been noted, notes the authorities’ statement.
The fire and rescue service (SIS) had issued recommendations in the event of contact with this hydrocarbon: rinse the skin with soapy water, rinse your eyes abundantly with clear water, and in case of ingestion, consult a doctor.
The leak had been reported around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday on a site led by a general company mandated by the industrial services of Geneva (GIS), as part of the preparatory work on the passage of the microtunnelierier intended for the connection of the Engine-Lac project to the PAV.
The leak is due to the rupture of a hydraulic pipe on a machine of the site. This breakup occurred underwater.
