Bas-Laurentians on vacation sulk the United States

Tensions between the United States and Canada modify the choices of Bas-Laurents holiday destinations. If the increase in the number of Canadian tourists in Montreal is tangible, a trend is also observed in the region, while travelers escape elsewhere than with our southern neighbors.

People want to visit their Canadalaunches Cynthia Brisson, from Daniel travel, when we interviewed it live from a nolized bus towards Toronto and the Niagara falls.

His travel agency, based in Rimouski, is organizing more trips to this destination this year. On average, four tourist buses left Rimouski annually to the Toronto region. This year, six buses are taking this direction for the holidays.

Ms. Brisson notes a decrease in the appeal of the United States. This year, 5 % of his business trips are organized in the United States, compared to 15 % normally.

Its customers are stingy with political comments to explain their choice to stay in the country for their vacation. Rather, they evoke the increase in the US dollar compared to the Canadian currency when they choose to stay in the country for a vacation.

As Four points that are not as part of the United States

However, a destination like New York at Easter is still popular.

Ms. Brisson observed during travel to the United States that Canadians are warmly welcomed.

I’ve been going through customs a hundred times and it’s the first time I have seen the customs officer [américain] who takes the trouble to welcome passengersshe says about a lived experience this spring.

New York, Florida, Las Vegas and California are also still popular destinations by Bas-Laurentian travelers. It looks like we have four points that are not as part of the United Statesquips Annick de Courval, owner of the company Club Voyages Inter-Monde, in Rimouski, which offers air travel packages.

Sales to American destinations are still in free fall. Ms. de Courval estimates that they have decreased by 50 % to 60 %.

People are still going to Las Vegas to see shows or for life 24 hours a day, but it is certain that we have noticed a good decrease.

Flights to popular Europe

The travel agent also notes a craze for European destinations, such as France and Portugal. People had like a love close to going back to see the little cousins, maybe!.

The west Canadian also gain popularity. For the coming winter, many destinations attract Bas-Laurentians. Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Mexico are still popular with people in the region who seek heat during the cold season.

According to Statistics Canada, the number of round trips to the United States made by Canadian car residents fell 36.9 % in July compared to the previous year, and 25.8 % by air.
