Basketball: Switzerland beaten in Slovakia

The Swiss team started his 2nd round of Pre-qualifications for the 2027 World Cup by a defeat. On Saturday in Bratislava, the men of Ilias Papatheodorou were beaten by Slovakia for their first game of the group stage (73-60).

Faced with the 60th nation of the global hierarchy, Switzerland (62nd) had nevertheless race in the lead, taking up to 7 points ahead of the game. The Swiss sank during the 2nd quarter, lost 28-14. Unable to make their own, they spent the rest of the meeting to run after the score, for a 73-60 defeat. Toni Rocak (13 points) and Selim Fofana (12) were the best markers on the Swiss side.

Switzerland will face theUkraine (37th in the FIBA ranking) this Wednesday, August 6 in Friborg (7 p.m.), before receiving the Slovakia Wednesday August 13 in Winterthour (7 p.m.), then finish his campaign in Ukraine on Saturday August 16. Only the first two teams of each group will then be able to take part in the “official” qualifications, which will start in November.

As a reminder, the national team had won its six games from the 1st round of pre-qualifications, disputed between February 2024 and February 2025 against Ireland, Azerbaijan and Kosovo.
