Belgium highlights its biomedical expertise with Japan

The Prime Minister’s SPF Chancellery will host, from August 25 to 29, a delegation of Japanese journalists who came to discover the “Belgium Health and Biotech Valley”, as part of the international promotion campaign “Belgium. Open for Business, ”said public service in a statement. Among them will be several major Japanese media such as Yomiuri Shimbun, Asahi Shimbun, Nikkei Business and the public channel NHK.

Japan is one of the important business partners of Belgium, which occupies fifth place in European exporters to this country, especially in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. The Health and Biotech Valley, born of cooperation between public authorities, companies and universities, constitutes the international showcase of Belgian biomedical expertise. The ecosystem brings together more than 600 companies, represents 5.7 billion euros in investments and generates some 43,000 direct jobs.

The program offered to Japanese journalists will also include a presentation of Belgian culture, gastronomy and history, as well as a round table on health technologies and the discovery of young Medtech companies. Several visits are planned in the three regions of the country. They will include Ion Beam Applications (IBA) in Louvain-la-Neuve, world leader in particle accelerators applied to cancer treatment and industry, Bionics axiles in Brussels, specializing in bionic and foot-based bionic prostheses, and vaccinopolis in Antwerp, Research Center of the University of Antwerp recognized by WHO and unique in Europe controlled.

A second stage of the program will be held on September 14 at the Osaka’s Universal Exhibition Expo 2025 in Japan. On the occasion of Belgian DayBelgian artists Helena and Mentissa will highlight the culture of the country through a concert. Since April, the Belgian exhibition pavilion has attracted attention to the national biomedical expertise, already noticed by more than 500,000 visitors, underlines the SPF Chancellery.
