The kick -off of Tomorrowland, one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the world, was darkened by a tragedy. A 35 -year -old Canadian festival man died on Friday July 18 In the evening after having made a discomfort on the festival site, located in Boom, in Belgium.
The Belgian authorities announced on Saturday the opening of an investigation in order to shed light on this death. The Antwerp prosecutor’s office, in charge of the file, said that he was trying to determine the exact causes of the drama. Transported to hospital after being taken care of on sitethe woman unfortunately did not survive.
This death occurs while tens of thousands of people flock to Tomorrowland, which brings together a prestigious program each year and international artists such as David Guetta, Lost Frequencies or Charlotte de Witte.
About 400,000 festival-goers are expected on both weekends of the event. This 2025 edition had already been marked upstream by a fire having ravaged the main scene a few days before the opening. The organizers had nevertheless quickly reacted by setting up an “alternative configuration” allowing the festival maintenance as planned.
The death of the festivals raises questions about the circumstances of the incident. The current survey will have to determine if Medical, environmental or external factors were able to play a role. The prosecution has, at this stage, gave no additional details on the identity of the victim or on the initial medical results.
