Betharram: adoption of the parliamentary report on violence in schools: News

The report of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Violence in Schools, led by the Violette Spillebout (EPR) and Paul Vannier (LFI) deputies in the wake of the Betharram scandal, was adopted on Wednesday, according to a commission statement.

“The report of the commission of inquiry on the methods of state control and the prevention of violence in schools was adopted this Wednesday, June 25 by the vote” of the members of the Parliamentary Commission on Cultural Affairs and Education, said the press release of co-reporters.

According to a parliamentary source, no member voted against 72 people members of the Cultural Affairs and Education Commission, which created this commission of inquiry. On the other hand, several have abstained.

Co-rapporteurs “have made 50 common recommendations to combat violence in all schools,” added the press release. This report will be made public next Wednesday at a press conference in the National Assembly.

“I have a thought for all the victims of violence, especially those we have encountered and heard throughout our work. It is their strength that this commission of inquiry was born,” commented Paul Vannier on the social network X.

The commission had started its work in early March. It was created in the wake of the scandal on the physical and sexual violence that continued for decades in Betharram, a private Catholic establishment in Béarn.

The revelations on violence in this establishment gave rise to others everywhere in France, in private or not, and had a political impact, Prime Minister François Bayrou having had several children educated in Bétharram.
