There are legends that are only approached with infinite precaution. The Mercedes 300 SLR of 1955 is one of these.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR is an absolute German engineering masterpiece. She dominated the world sports car championship with Stirling Moss at her wheel, thanks to her eight -cylinder online engine, her magnesium body and her featherweight. A sacred monster, as fast as it is elegant, as powerful as it is partial. Sports girl from the legendary 300 SL, she really opened the modern era of automotive competition.
Completed in 2022 by the infamous Californian design office S-Klub la, this alleged “tribute car” offered for sale by SBX CARS, the auction site of the famous Blonde Supercar influencer, is supposed to pay tribute to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Built on a homemade chassis, its designers had the rich idea of equipping it with an engine… LS1 V8 of Chevrolet origin! And yes, why bother looking for a Mercedes engine to equip this reinterpretation with a Mercedes? Heartbreaking. As for the gray carbon fiber body, why did you have so many appendages when the original favored the purity of surfaces at the service of aerodynamic performance? This creature out of a tortured spirit and a priori without great automotive culture has everything of the tribute of bad taste, even the legendary outrage.
A MERCEDES BURGER SAUCE stain
Forget the line purity of the original! Here, we are entitled to a bodybuilded caricature. The anachronistic Boyd Coddington rims equipped with Toyo Tuning tires, the Poor Hot Rod lateral exhaust, the steering wheel straight out of an animated cartoon and the poorly grafted optics make it a frightening and soulless creature of Frankestein. And what can I say about it? An improbable mixture of royal blue leather and black Scottish fabric worthy of an ill -inspired Ikea sofa. The whole is presented as a work of art on wheels, but we would rather seek the release of the exhibition.

The most ironic is undoubtedly the use of the words “Sport, Leicht, Rennen” to illustrate this machine which has slight only legitimacy. By transforming a German myth into a Californian roadster with American engine, this 300 SLR Tribute accumulates faults of taste with confusing carefree.
You had to dare. S-Klub did it. But instead of sublimating the icon, this creation betrays it. It is not a reinterpretation, it is a garish pastiche. Knowing the automotive culture of Blondie Supercar, it is difficult to imagine that it endorses this rolling tragedy. She could at least have blurred the star on the grille that this pastiche has no right to wear!
